WHEW!!! The All-Member
Survey is finally here, included as an insert in this month's
EXPLORER.
Remember my plan to carry out
the theme of "Value, Value, Value," and to undertake a "Value Proposition
for AAPG?" Well, that means clarifying and capturing the services
and benefits desired by the stakeholders.
And that means you, the individual
member.
The proven best way to deliver
such a proposition is to conduct an all-member survey.
The development of the survey
has had a long history, starting in August 1997, with the formation
of the Advisory Council Ad Hoc Elected Editor Committee. The idea
got a boost in May 1999, when the House of Delegates recommended
an all-member survey on the BULLETIN.
In August 2000, the Advisory
Council established an ad hoc committee "to develop a program and
service enhancement plan that would identify and prioritize programs
and services that would provide the greatest number of benefits
to the greatest number of members."
This resulted in the Executive
Committee establishing a special EC/AC/HOD committee in April 2001
to develop a survey focusing both on the usefulness of existing
programs and services, and also to sample opinion on a wide range
of new proposals.
The joint committee met at least
five times and exchanged hundreds of e-mails in the effort to define,
select and prioritize the topics and questions.
Finally, bids from four professional
survey companies were received and a selection was made. The Executive
Committee, AAPG's professional staff, the survey company and the
joint ad hoc committee all had a hand in the final product.
I have rarely seen so much work
and effort expended on a single product.
Directions are simple — just
remove the insert, spend about 5-10 minutes completing the survey,
fold and mail.
Alternatively, you can respond
electronically. The site address is on the published survey.
Here is your chance to have a
say-so on the activities of AAPG. What changes and improvements
do we need to make? It is in your best interest to respond.
The survey is important in our
effort to create value for every member — and to build a better
association.
