Fritz Named Executive Director

Richard D. Fritz has been named Executive Director of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, succeeding Lyle F. Baie, who recently resigned to pursue other interests.

Fritz, president of Masera Corp., Tulsa, is a native Oklahoman and holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University.

Richard D. Fritz has been named Executive Director of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, succeeding Lyle F. Baie, who recently resigned to pursue other interests.

Fritz, president of Masera Corp., Tulsa, is a native Oklahoman and holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University.

He will assume the directorship on September 1.

Fritz' professional experience includes working as a geophysicist with Texaco and exploration geologist with Exxon in the King Ranch area and the Anadarko Basin, becoming senior exploration geologist based in Oklahoma City. Fritz was also U.S. Project Manager for ERICO Inc. in Tulsa before joining Masera.

He joined AAPG in 1984 and is a member of the Division of Environmental Geosciences and the Division of Professional Affairs, serving as treasurer in 1996-98 and was recently voted president-elect of DPA for 1999-2000. (An announcement will be forthcoming as to the DPA arrangements following Fritz' naming as AAPG Executive Director).

AAPG President M. Ray Thomasson issued the following statement:

"After an extensive and thorough candidate search process, I take great pleasure on behalf of your Executive Committee, to announce that Richard D. "Rick" Fritz has been chosen to lead our Association into the new millennium. I know that all members of the AAPG and its Headquarters' staff join the Executive Committee and me in wishing Rick every success in his new role as Lyle Baie's successor.

"With our membership's backing the guidance of the Executive Committee and the enthusiastic support of our superb staff, Rick will be able to build on our rich heritage.

"There are many challenges facing us. However, we believe that Rick has the dedication, creativity and the focus needed to move AAPG forward. Under Rick's leadership, I can assure you that AAPG will have an exciting and productive beginning into the 21st Century."
