Have you submitted your abstract for the AAPG annual meeting in New Orleans? No? Great! If you have Internet access you may now submit your abstract through the AAPG Web site.

But what if you've already submitted your abstract? Not to worry. You can take advantage of the same service.

This new option can be used immediately for the 2000 AAPG annual meeting, slated April 16-19 in New Orleans, and for the 2000 AAPG international conference and exhibition in Bali, Indonesia, slated Oct. 15-18.

Advantages of electronic abstract submission include:

  • Multiple authors may work on the same abstract from different locations.
  • An opportunity to edit or modify that abstract will be available up to the deadline for submissions.
  • In turn, session chairs will be able to review and select papers online, distribute them to the appropriate tracks and sessions and create the technical program paperless.

AAPG is encouraging all authors to use this process because it is clear, simple and straightforward. Instructions will build your abstract's details with checkpoints along the way to ensure accuracy of your submission.

Information you'll need for submission will include names and contact information of authors (including e-mail) as well as your first and second choice of sessions and track.

If you have your abstract prepared before entering the submission process you will find the experience quick and easy.

Your feedback and use of this new option for submitting abstracts is critical to how abstracts will be handled for future AAPG meetings. The AAPG convention staff is confident this service will be well received.

The abstract deadline for New Orleans is Sept. 23. The abstract deadline for the international meeting in Bali is Nov. 15.

To submit an abstract via the Internet, click here and proceed to the New Orleans 2000 meeting then follow the Call for Abstracts line.

If you have questions or comments contact Sandy Hensley at 1-800-397-4141 ext. 2641 (local 560-2741).

Other changes are coming soon on AAPG's Web site.

A new home page will include a site map and site search for easier navigation. It may require some new bookmarks on the part of the user, but the ease of navigation will offset that minor inconvenience.

Also, a new password scheme should simplify the access to AAPG's forum and other data.

In the late fall AAPG should release a bookstore online, and other future plans include online meeting and course registrations as well as the opportunity for members to update their membership information.
