Rick Fritz has been named executive director of the AAPG Foundation, effective Nov. 5, Foundation Chairman Lawrence Funkhouser announced.

Fritz, who took the reins as executive director of the association on August 1, succeeds Donald A. O'Nesky, who assumes the position of deputy executive director of the Foundation. O'Nesky had served as Foundation executive director since February 1998.

Funkhouser said O'Nesky will be in charge of several major projects the Foundation will undertake during the coming year.

The Association and Foundation are separate non-profit corporate entities but share multiple goals and aims.

As a result of these changes, one person will once again serve as executive director of the Foundation and executive director of the Association. This will enhance communications and planning functions between the two organizations, Funkhouser said.

"Don has served very effectively as Executive Director during his tenure," Funkhouser said in a statement to the Foundation Trustees and the AAPG Executive Committee. "The Foundation has prospered and has significantly increased funding for many continuing and new programs under his leadership. The other Trustees and I appreciate greatly Don's exemplary performance.

"We look forward to his continued contributions as he works closely with Rick to further the goals of the Foundation."
