Robert C. Millspaugh Jr., former AAPG education department manager, has been named to the newly named position of geoscience director, according to AAPG executive director Rick Fritz.

Millspaugh will be filling the position that was previously referred to as science director. What had been AAPG's "science department" is now the "geoscience department," Fritz said.

Millspaugh came to AAPG in 1986 to head the Association's professional education program following a career at Cities Service and later at Occidental Petroleum.

He joined Cities in 1950 after receiving his degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma. His early years were spent in the mid-continent, Rocky Mountain, southwest and eastern regions of the United States, as well as four years as chief geologist of Colombia-Cities Service in Bogota, Colombia.

While at Cities he served as chief geologist, manager of exploration staff, and upon retirement was director of exploration applied research and technology. Under his guidance, the Exploration Training Program was developed to train geoscientists for their early career with Cities Service.

Most recently, Millspaugh had been acting science director for AAPG in addition to his education manager responsibilities.
