Various award winners have been announced for technical presentations at the AAPG annual meeting in New Orleans, including recipients of the Matson and Braunstein awards.
Award winners will be recognized at the 2001 AAPG annual meeting in Denver, with the Matson and Braunstein awards presented as part of the opening session.
Other various Division awards for technical presentations will be published as announced.
Matson Award
The George C. Matson award, presented for the best oral paper, goes to Wafik Beydoun, with Elf Exploration Angola, Roissy Cedex, France, for the paper "Exploration Challenges Into Angolan Deep Water to Ultra Deep Waters.” The co-authors are Jean-Jacques Biteau and Philippe Legrand, also with Elf Exploration Angola, Roissy Cedex.
Braunstein Award
The Jules Braunstein award, presented for the best poster, goes to Joseph R. Straccia and Brad E. Prather, both with Shell International Petroleum, Rijswijk, Netherlands, for "Stratigraphic Traps in Deepwater Turbidite Reservoirs at the Base of Depositional Slope."
Division of Environmental Geosciences
- The DEG best oral paper award goes to Mary L. Barrett, with Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport, La., for "Reconstructing Waste History in an Old Flush Production Area: Smackover Field, Ark."
- The DEG best poster award goes to co-authors Karin Andreassen and Juergen Mienert, both with the University of Tromso, Tromso, Norway; and Karl A. Berteussen, Helge Sognees, Kerstin Henneberg and Jan Langhammer, all with PGS Reservoir, Oslo, Norway, for "Multi-Component Seismic Data in Gas Hydrate Investigations."
Division of Professional Affairs
- The DPA best paper award goes to Kenneth F. Wantland, with Wantland & Associates, Tulsa, for "Personal Career Strategies for the New Global Marketplace."
Energy Minerals Division
- The EMD best oral paper award goes to William DeMis, with Marathon Oil, Midland, Texas, for "Historical Analysis of Real Global Price of Oil: Implications for Future Prices."
- The EMD best poster award goes to co-authors John R. SanFilipo, Ron W. Stanton and Peter D. Warwick, all with the U.S. Geological Survey, Reston, Va.; Charles E. Barker, with the U.S. Geological Survey, Denver; and Loyd E. Morris, with Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, for "A Shallow Coal-Bed Methane Show in the Gulf Coast of Texas, Indication of Down-Dip Commercial Potential?"
SEPM
- The SEPM best oral paper award goes to Henry W. Posamentier, with Atlantic Richfield Indonesia, Plano, Texas, for "Seismic Stratigraphy Into the Next Millenium: A Focus on 3-D Seismic Data."
