Interpretation, the peer-reviewed journal published by AAPG and SEG for advancing the practice of subsurface interpretation, has been accepted by Thomson Reuters for inclusion in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), in which the annual Impact Factors are published.

“Inclusion of Interpretation in SCIE and JCR represents a significant milestone for the fledgling international journal,” said editor-in-chief Yonghe Sun. "This is a great tribute to authors, reviewers, editors and staff for their hard work in bringing about a high-quality multidisciplinary publication.”

Inclusion in the SCIE and JCR provides benefit for scholars and researchers and visibility to authors published in Interpretation. The SCIE provides researchers, administrators, faculty and students with quick access to bibliographic and citation information.

Every journal included in SCIE has met the high standards of an evaluation process.

The JCR offers a systematic means to critically evaluate the world’s leading journals with statistical information based on citation data. By compiling articles’ cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.

“While the SCIE may be unfamiliar to geoscientists in the North American natural resource industry, it is widely utilized as a means of evaluation and promotion by academic and government research institutions worldwide,” said Kurt Marfurt, Interpretation’s incoming editor for 2016-19.

“There are many contributors to the success of the new journal,” said Interpretation deputy editor and AAPG Honorary member Randy Ray. “Congratulations to SEG and AAPG, who saw the need and opened the door to a new publication to fit the current needs of active geoscientists working as interpreters.”
