geoCVD 2010: Mission Accomplished
AAPG members once again returned to Washington, D.C., in September for Geosciences Congressional Visits Day 2010 (geoCVD 2010).
Congress was in town for several weeks before heading back on the campaign trail, so we took the opportunity to talk about energy issues important to our members. We also had a chance to meet with the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Research Council and the Congressional Research Service.

AAPG members once again returned to Washington, D.C., in September for Geosciences Congressional Visits Day 2010 (geoCVD 2010).
Congress was in town for several weeks before heading back on the campaign trail, so we took the opportunity to talk about energy issues important to our members. We also had a chance to meet with the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Research Council and the Congressional Research Service.
We talked about the fundamental interrelationships of the economy, environment and energy production – particularly oil and natural gas. We also discussed the role of federal research and development in creating jobs and training and equipping the next generation oil and gas work force.
My sincere thanks to all of our participants: Jennifer Burton, EMD President Michael Campbell, Ross Clark, Cheryl Desforges, Michael Fogarty, Bryant Fulk, Jim Hill, AAPG past president Dan Smith and DPA President Dan Tearpock. Thank you for joining with us to bring science to policymakers.
Preparations already are under way for our next CVD in spring 2011, and we’ll publish dates as soon as available. This will be a particularly important CVD, because it will be the first of a brand new Congress.
