New Executive Committee Seated

Rose Assumes Presidency

Peter R. Rose, an Austin, Texas, independent geologist, on July 1 assumed leadership of the Association’s Executive Committee as AAPG president for 2005-06.

Rose, founder and president of Rose & Associates, is a native of Austin who received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.

Peter R. Rose, an Austin, Texas, independent geologist, on July 1 assumed leadership of the Association’s Executive Committee as AAPG president for 2005-06.

Rose, founder and president of Rose & Associates, is a native of Austin who received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.

He began his career with Shell Oil Co. and worked in several locations as an exploration and staff geologist. Rose also taught at State University of New York, Stoney Brook, before he joined the U.S. Geological Survey.

He later joined Energy Reserves Group, and in 1980 founded Telegraph Exploration and remains senior partner of that company.

Joining Rose on the Executive Committee is Lee Billingsley, exploration vice president for Abraxas Corp. in San Antonio, Texas, who recently was voted president-elect by the AAPG membership. Billingsley will serve as president in 2006-07.

Others recently elected to the 2005-06 Executive Committee are:

  • Vice President -- Steven L. Veal, of DCX Resources, Denver (one-year term).
  • Secretary -- J. Michael Party, division exploration manager for Wagner & Brown, Midland, Texas (two-year term).

Remaining on the committee are Ernest A. Mancini of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, elected editor, serving the second year of a three-year term; and Dwight “Clint” Moore, Houston consultant, who will serve the final year of a two-year term as treasurer.

Also joining the Executive Committee is Donald D. Clarke, of Lakewood, Calif., this year’s chair of the House of Delegates.
