AAPG Town Hall Draws About 130 in Houston
About 130 geologists gathered for the AAPG Town Hall Meeting May 18 in Houston to get a "State-of-the-AAPG Union" report on the Association from its leadership.
The meeting, titled "AAPG Today and Tomorrow," included hors d'oeuvres and favorite beverages plus brief presentations by President Patrick J.F. Gratton, President-elect Peter R. Rose and Rick Fritz, AAPG executive director.

About 130 geologists gathered for the AAPG Town Hall Meeting May 18 in Houston to get a "State-of-the-AAPG Union" report on the Association from its leadership.
The meeting, titled "AAPG Today and Tomorrow," included hors d'oeuvres and favorite beverages plus brief presentations by President Patrick J.F. Gratton, President-elect Peter R. Rose and Rick Fritz, AAPG executive director.
The Town Hall was advertised to about 6,000 people, inviting AAPG, HGS members and their guests to attend the gathering at the Marriott Houston Westchase Hotel.
Gratton welcomed the group and gave a brief overview that included AAPG's financial standing, demographics changes, the AAPG Washington office proposal and other initiatives introduced over the year. Rose spoke of future initiatives and the intention of building on past efforts.
Fritz provided information on overall activities and headquarters operations.
A wide range of questions was elicited from the group, and Gratton expanded on his comments concerning the importance of AAPG student members and the many programs launched to attract and retain younger members.
Presenters also fielded questions concerning the GeoCare insurance program (see [PFItemLinkShortcode|id:41957|type:standard|anchorText:Director's Corner|PFItemLinkShortcode]).
Rose noted the gathering was an effort for the leadership to hear directly from the membership.
