Matson, Braunstein Winners Announced

Technical winners have been announced for the best paper and poster presentations at June's AAPG Annual Convention in Calgary.

The winners will receive their awards at the opening session of the next annual meeting, set April 9-12 in Houston.

Technical winners have been announced for the best paper and poster presentations at June's AAPG Annual Convention in Calgary.

The winners will receive their awards at the opening session of the next annual meeting, set April 9-12 in Houston.

The winners are:

George S. Matson Award

The best paper award goes to Michael R. Hudec, with the Bureau of Economic Geology, Jackson School of Geosciences, the University of Texas, Austin, for the paper "A Compressional Origin for Minibasins Near the Sigsbee Escarpment, Gulf of Mexico."

The paper was part of the session on "Salt Tectonics." Hudec's co-author was Martin Jackson, also of the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin.

Jules Braunstein Award

The best poster award goes to Hege M.Nordgård Bolås, Christian Hermanrud and Gunn M.G. Teige, all with the Statoil ASA Research Center, Trondheim, Norway, for the poster "Seal Capacity Estimation from Subsurface Pore Pressures."

The poster was part of the session on "Seals and Overpressure in Mud-Dominated Systems."
