The following are statements of the candidates for AAPG president-elect for 2004-05.

Nominated candidates Alfredo Guzmán and Peter R. Rose will be joined on the ballot by petition candidate Charles R. "Chuck" Noll (December EXPLORER).

Guzmán and Rose were approved as nominated candidates at the May 10, 2003, Executive Committee meeting, following the nominating procedures spelled out in the AAPG Bylaws.

The Bylaws also has provisions for petition candidates to enter a race by providing the signatures of 50 Active AAPG members. Noll provided the necessary number of signatures and joined the ballot by the October 15 deadline the Bylaws allow.

Previous statements and biographies of Guzmán and Rose appeared in the September EXPLORER.

Following the precedent set in the 2001-02 election, the Executive Committee, in its desire for fairness to all candidates, has made available the biographies, photos and statements of each of the president-elect candidates. Nominated candidates will address the same question addressed in the September EXPLORER: "Why I Accepted the Invitation to be a Candidate for AAPG Office."

Both nominated candidates were given the opportunity to change their statement if they so desired, as ordinarily these statements are made without the candidates having seen the others' statements. Guzmán opted to make no changes to his statement.

Noll addresses the question, "Why I Decided to be a Petition Candidate for AAPG Office."

Candidates, who provided all information, were asked to limit their biography to 350 words and statements to 500 words.

Next month, bios and statements by the two nominated candidates for treasurer and a petition candidate for the same office will be published.
