The
event is AAPG's annual
Prospect and Property Expo — known now by the popular acronym
"APPEX" — which will be held
Sept. 14-16 in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
This year's
fourth annual Houston APPEX will once again offer geoscientists
the chance to buy, sell and trade their work in a professional marketplace.
The three-day
event, expected to attract over 2,000 participants this year, has
lined-up a "power luncheon" speaker to discuss experiences as an
independent in the international arena, and also will for the first
time feature a new workshop geared for geoscientists who are eyeing
international activities, titled "Tools and Techniques for Assessing
New-Country Entry."
This "going
international workshop," offered by IHS Energy, will be held Thursday,
Sept. 16 from 7:30-9 a.m.
The workshop
is just one of many new features being added to APPEX this year
to give attendees even more opportunities for success.
Among those
features is a "Perspectives
on the Upstream Business of Oil and Gas" forum, also sponsored
by IHS Energy around the theme "The Exploration Dilemma: What is
Exploration's Role in Shaping the Energy Future?"
The forum,
set from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, will address
issues such as financial markets, technology, regulations, politics
and policies, and is organized into three sessions:
- Global
exploration opportunities, discovery trends and directions —
Experts and executives from various company sectors will discuss
industry directions, and will assess risks and rewards to stimulate
increased international exploration investments.
- North
American exploration outlook — Executive views of challenges,
opportunities and policy issues.
- Investment
opportunities.
The forum
is the lead-up, of course, to the expo itself, which begins with
an Icebreaker at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and offers the opportunity
to find and/or sell ideas, prospects and property.
Other
APPEX highlights include:
-
A "power lunch" on Tuesday, Sept. 14, featuring a talk by John
Seitz, geologist and president of Houston-based Endeavour International
(and former head of Anadarko Energy). (See North
Sea Royalty Idea Paying Off.)
- A
SIPES/HGS/AAPG short course, "Packaging and Selling Your Prospect:
Geoscience, Land and Financial Return — A How-To Guide for Presenting
Prospects to Management and Investors," to be held from 1-5 p.m.
on Thursday, Sept. 16.
- A
"mini-breaker" at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
- Continental
breakfast available on both Sept. 15-16.
Blocks
of rooms are being held at the Holiday Inn and Hilton Americas,
available through Aug. 13.
Best of
all, online
registration and further
updated information — about both attending or securing space
on the exhibit floor is still available.
