Science and business are the themes for the Rocky Mountain Natural Gas 2004 energy summit - this year's annual Rocky Mountain Section meeting - which will be held Aug. 9-11 at Denver's Colorado Convention Center.

The meeting is a joint session for RMS and the Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Strategy Conference arid Investment Forum, sponsored by the Colorado Oil & Gas Association.

The meeting, a "first time ever" blending of RMS and COGA - RMS attendees can add $50 to their registration fee to attend concurrent COGA sessions - will include eight technical sessions, posters. two luncheons and icebreakers, short courses and dual exhibits featuring more than 150 exhibitors.

Other highlights will include:

  • A Monday luncheon featuring keynote speaker Scott W. Tinker, director of the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin. Texas, speaking on "Unconventional Gas and Global Energy: Is It Mountain Standard Time?"
  • A Tuesday luncheon featuring Bobby S. Shackouls, CEO of Burlington Resources and chairman of the National Petroleum Council, speaking on U.S. and Rockies natural gas resources.
  • A Tuesday morning "mega session" on "Natural Gas in the Future of World Energy" and "The Role of the Rockies in the Future of North American Natural Gas."
  • A Wednesday afternoon "Pipeline Session."

Technical themes will include:

  • New and Old Plays in the Rockies.
  • Unconventional Gas.
  • Applied Reservoir Models.
  • Coalbed Methane.
  • Shallow Gas.
  • Search for Giant Oil Fields.
  • New Seismic Techniques-Basin and Petroleum Systems.
