U.S., International Visits Set

AAPG's Distinguished Lecture program will have three speakers on tour in October, including some U.S. and Canadian talks by this year's AAPG-SEG speaker.

Heloise Lynn, an AAPG member with Lynn Inc., in Houston, will make four lectures this month as the fifth speaker in the joint inter-society lecture series. Her tour is being coordinated by SEG.

  • Oct. 19 — CSEG, Calgary, Canada.
  • Oct. 21 — Dallas Geophysical Society.
  • Geophysical Society of Houston.

Also this month will be the U.S. tour of Abdulkader M. Afifi and the international tour of Robert S. "Bo" Tye, this year's Roy M. Huffington Distinguished Lecturer.

Afifi's tour is being subsidized by Saudi Aramco and ExxonMobil. He is senior geological consultant-upstream ventures department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. His topics are:

  • "Ghawar: Anatomy of the World's Largest Oil Field."
  • "Paleozoic Hydrocarbon Habitat in the Arabian Plate."

Afifi starts his tour Oct. 1 in Denver. The remainder of his schedule is:

  • Oct. 4 — New Orleans Geological Society.
  • Oct. 5 — Tulsa Geological Society.
  • Oct. 7 — Arizona Geological Society and the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz.
  • Oct. 11 — Houston Geological Society.

Tye's international tour, supported by contributions from the Huffington family in honor of the oilman-geologist, started in late September and already has made stops in Korea, China and Thailand.

His talks are:

  • "Alluvial Basin Filling Processes and Quantitative Determination of Channel and Channel-Belt Dimensions Using Cores and Logs."
  • "Reservoir Description and Unique Horizontal-Well Designs Boost Primary and EOR Production From the Fluvio-Deltaic Prudhoe Bay Field, Alaska."

His schedule this month is:

  • Oct. 5 — University of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan.
  • Oct. 7 — Petronas and the Geological Society of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • Oct. 11-12 — Various groups in Jakarta, Indonesia, including the Indonesian Petroleum Association in Balikpapan and Jakarta.
  • Oct. 14 — PESA, Perth, Australia.
  • Oct. 18 — Crown Minerals Group, Wellington, New Zealand.
  • Oct. 20 — JAPT, Tokyo, Japan.
