"Ancient Oil — New Energy" is the theme for the meeting, AAPG's first international conference in Cairo, Egypt, Oct. 27-30. Most sessions will be held in the Cairo International Conference Centre. The meeting is jointly sponsored by AAPG, EPEX, SEG, EGS and EAGE, with sessions by SPE.

The pre-registration deadline has been extended to Oct. 10.

The technical program, which will cover the entire circum-Mediterranean, North and West African and Middle East region, includes 42 oral and 28 poster sessions, six short courses and 11 field trips, designed to take advantage not only of the geology but also of the historical, archeological and cultural treasures that can be found in Egypt and across the region.

The meeting also will feature a large exhibits area, showcasing the latest in technical, educational and national displays — and it also will be the site of the Virtual Cafe, where complimentary access to e-mail will be available to those attending the conference.

Also, the convention committee is still seeking volunteer judges for the paper and poster sessions. A Judges' Breakfast will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, prior to the first session.

To volunteer as a judge mark your registration form, or contact Sandy Hensley in the AAPG convention department at telephone — 918-560-2641; fax — 918-560-2684.
