The
exploration eyes of the world will be turned toward Spain this month,
as the AAPG International Conference and Exhibition is held in Barcelona.
The meeting,
designed around the theme "Crossroads of Geology, Energy and Cultures,"
will be held Sept. 21-24 at the Catalonia Palace of Congresses.
Jorge/Jordi Ferrer, representing the hosting Institut Cartogràfic
de Catalunya, is the general chairman.
More than
500 technical presentations -- including talks, posters, short courses,
field trips and workshops -- will be offered, built around five
themes:
- Regional
Geology (special emphasis on the Circum-Mediterranean and the
Atlantic Margin).
- Field-Based
Geological Models (to emphasize Spain’s and the region’s outstanding
geological outcrops).
- Business
and Energy Transport (featuring management forums and a special
session on the role of smaller independents in the international
arena).
- Technology.
- Student
sessions.
Sunday’s
opening session will feature addresses from several local and regional
officials, plus entertainment that will flow into the traditional
Icebreaker. Monday’s All-Conference Luncheon speaker will be John
Gibson, president and CEO of the Halliburton Energy Services Group,
talking about "The Ethics Storybook."
