Cooperation with and from the Local Officials
Cooperation with and from the local officials has
helped make the Equatorial Guinea play successful for U.S. independents.
"Equatorial Guinea has been an excellent fit for
us," said Scott Griffiths, senior vice president of exploration
for Ocean Energy. "The government is interested in attracting independents
and we have enjoyed a beneficial relationship with officials. The
county's policies have been attractive and provided the impetus
for fast track developments, which are important to independent
companies.

"The streamlined bureaucracy has been positive for
both Equatorial Guinea and oil companies."
Brian Maxted of Amerada Hess agreed.
"The government has been extremely supportive of
our activities and assisted us greatly with timely approvals of
exploration and development plans. Officials are very fair to deal
with and honor commitments. We have developed a strong relationship
with key ministry officials and have their people in our office
in Dallas.
"We want them to feel a part of the process," he
said, "which makes decisions easier all along the way."
