Sonnenberg Takes Gavel
Stephen A. Sonnenberg has assumed leadership of the association's Executive Committee for 2003-2004.
Sonnenberg, team lead North Piceance for EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) in Denver, served as AAPG president-elect for 2002-2003.
A native of Billings, Mont., Sonnenberg received his bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from Texas A&M University, and his doctorate from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

Stephen A. Sonnenberg has assumed leadership of the association's Executive Committee for 2003-2004.
Sonnenberg, team lead North Piceance for EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) in Denver, served as AAPG president-elect for 2002-2003.
A native of Billings, Mont., Sonnenberg received his bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from Texas A&M University, and his doctorate from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
Sonnenberg began his career with Gulf Oil in Oklahoma City and was a teaching and research assistant at Texas A&M before joining Exxon USA as exploration and development geologist. He later worked as an exploration geologist for Bass Enterprises, and as an independent consultant from 1991-97, when he joined North American Resources (now EnCana).
Joining Sonnenberg on the Executive Committee is Patrick J.F. Gratton, a Dallas independent geologist who recently was voted president-elect by the AAPG membership.
Gratton previously served a year on the Executive Committee as chairman of the House of Delegates. He holds his bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from the University of New Mexico.
He will serve as AAPG president in 2004-05.
Others recently elected to the 2003-04 Executive Committee are:
- Vice President - Erik P. Mason, Shell Team Leader, Gulf of Mexico New Ventures, Houston (one-year term).
- Secretary - Robert L. Countryman, geological advisor, Occidental Petroleum, Bakersfield, Calif. (two-year term).
Also joining the Executive Committee is George Eynon, with GEOS Energy Consulting, Calgary, Canada, this year's chairman of the House of Delegates.
Remaining on the committee are:
- Treasurer Paul Weimer, of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a consulting geologist. He will be completing the second of a two-year term.
- Elected editor John Lorenz, of Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M. He will be completing the final year of a three-year term.
