Paul H. Dudley Jr., an AAPG Foundation Trustee Emeritus who provided leadership and important support for both AAPG and the Foundation for nearly six decades, has died at this home in Bend, Ore. He was 93.

Dudley, born in Long Beach, Calif., as the son of a petroleum geologist, received his geology degrees from Pomona College (bachelor’s) and UCLA (master’s), before starting his career with Humble Oil (later Exxon), filling several management positions.

His 60-year career later included stints with Mosbacher Production Co. (executive vice president), Consolidated Natural Gas (senior vice president, vice chair and board member) and consultant for Prudential Securities/PHD Energy. He retired in 2014.

With AAPG, Dudley was a certified professional geologist and a member of the DPA and several other committees.

His involvement and leadership, however, was emphasized through his connection with the Foundation, which he first started supporting in the late 1970s before joining (1981) and taking an active role in promoting the Trustees Associates.

In 1986 he was appointed as one of the original Foundation Members of the Corporation, increasing his involvement with the Foundation, which also included leadership roles with the TAs, first as vice chair and then as chair in 1992-93.

In 1995 he was elected as a Foundation Trustee, eventually serving as the board’s secretary. He was named Trustee Emeritus in 2004.

Dudley received the Foundation’s Chairman’s Award in 2018, presented to honor extraordinary contributions to the Foundation.
