We are starting our busy time of year for AAPG.

  • Our first big 2004 activity is the APPEX London Prospect and Property Expo, scheduled for March 2-4. This is the third International APPEX held in London, but it is our first stand-alone event. The past two international APPEX events were part of the Energy Institute's IP Week.

AAPG still endorses IP Week, and we are continuing to co-convene a one-day upstream seminar with the Energy Institute on Feb. 18 during that meeting.

This year's APPEX London is designed to be one of the year's premier upstream E&P events, in that it is much more than a prospect and property expo. Full registration includes three days of world-class presentations by numerous senior industry executives sharing their knowledge of global oil and gas opportunities, in addition to exhibits and opportunities displayed by oil companies and National Oil Companies from around the world.

APPEX London is endorsed by the Geological Society of London, the Energy Institute, the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers, and the UK Department of Trade and Industry. Competitively priced, this event is a must-see for anyone doing business in the global arena.
  • Following APPEX London, the next international event is GEO 2004 in Bahrain.

This meeting is the 6th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition, and will be held in the Bahrain International Exhibition Center, March 7-10. AAPG is involved once again in offering the "AAPG Pavilion" exhibit space during GEO, where attendees will find various entities showcasing their latest and greatest products and services.

This is the Middle East's main exploration event, and involves significant contributions from many members of our Middle East Region.
  • The big event for AAPG this spring, of course, is the Annual Meeting in Dallas, April 18-21. Our annual meeting is the premier exploration business and geoscience event of the year, and always attracts a high percentage of corporate decision makers. This is due to the quality of the technical program and the fertile ground for new ideas and developments in E&P.

Once again we have planned an incredible technical program, plus an exciting exhibits floor that will display many of the latest advances in technology. It is a dynamic event and well worth the time and money. All of industry and academia is invited, so make your reservations early.

You can review the technical program and register online at www.aapg.org.
  • Finally, do not forget this spring's AAPG Section meetings.

The Southwest Section will hold its annual meeting March 7-9, in El Paso, Texas, and the Pacific Section will host its annual meeting May 8-12 in Bakersfield, Calif. Both have good technical sessions and field trips planned.

The Sections and Regions are the grassroots of the Association, and we enthusiastically support your participation in their activities

There is an old German proverb that says "God gives the nuts, but he does not crack them." I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I do know that when opportunity knocks, you must get up to answer the door.

I recommend these opportunities whole heartedly for your consideration, enjoyment and professional development.

I'll look forward to seeing you in London, Bahrain, El Paso, Dallas and Bakersfield!
