The
program is in place, the booths are being sold and expectations
are high for a meeting that offers a great deal - and great deals.
The third annual AAPG
Prospect and Property Expo, "Live Long and Prospect," will be
held Sept. 9-11 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Co-conveners are SIPES, the Houston Geological Society and PLS.
This year's Houston APPEX, like the previous two
events, will offer a convenient, extensive prospect and property
showroom that is designed by geologists, for geologists.
Those deals, ideas, plays and properties will be
on display at the time of year when most buyers are developing their
budgets for the coming season.
Last year's event attracted more than 2,000 participants
and 300 booths - sizable increases over the inaugural APPEX. Organizers
expect those numbers to rise again in September, with goals of 3,000
attendees and 400 booths.
But last year's success hasn't deterred the introduction
of new ideas for this year.
APPEX begins on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with a special
one-day forum on "Perspectives on the Upstream Business of Oil and
Gas." The forum, sponsored by IHS Energy, will address key trends,
business issues, strategic alliances and future directions in two
critical E&P areas:
- International E&P perspectives, with
focus on deepwater developments.
- North American natural gas perspectives.
Each of the seven sessions will feature industry
executives and IHS senior analysts who will speak and then participate
in extended question and answer sessions.
Tuesday's activities also include a short course
on "Risk and Asset Development," led by Gary Citron, an occasional
writer for the EXPLORER's Business
Side of Geology column.
The prospect and property expo will be open from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 11. A reception will be held for all attendees in
the expo hall on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
